Description
An Antique Porcelain Tankard Mug with Floral Design and Woman's Portrait from very early 20th Century. This is an attractive porcelain mug from somewhere between 1890 and 1910. Against a creamy white background are a number of delicate pink flowers as well as a portrait of a lovely young woman holding a floral bouquet. This handled mug also features a hand painted forest green border near the top rim and base of the mug, as well as along the length of the handle.
There are two stamps on the base of the mug which help to date it. The first is the maker's mark which is "Anchor Pottery - Trenton, NJ" which operated during the years of 1884 -1924 in Trenton. The second stamp is for "Ionia Mfg Co - Trenton, NJ" who was a distributor of Fine Porcelains in Trenton at the turn of the century. Upon some research, it appears that Ionia Manufacturing was dissolved in March of 1916 which would mean that this cup dates sometime before that date.
The cup measures 5" tall and is 3 3/4" at its widest at the flared base - (incorporating handle - the width is approximately 5"). It is in very good vintage condition for its age. There are no chips, cracks or significant crazing noted. There is some loss of green paint of the borders on the rim and base of cup as well as some discoloration spots on the white surface near the base.
A lovely addition to any antique collection or for fans of quality workmanship from days gone by.
