Rare Antique Burmese Parabaik Book-Hand Written Text on Handmade Paper with Original Artwork.
Absolutely one of a kind book is in very good vintage/antique condition.
This is an exceedingly rare handmade antique book from Burma/Myanmar, believed to be from 1900-1920 time frame.
Hand written text on Handmade paper, with
hand drawn illustrations knowns as tattoo designs. The front and back covers are carved and painted relief decorations with some mosaic border designs. Beautifully done tattoo flash style book. The book opens into a long accordion fold of double sided pages. Please see the photos for details.
This is a  folded-paper book or parabaik (also spelled parabeik) constructed in the traditional Burmese/Myanmar manner, with the heavy paper cut and pasted into one long strip, then folded accordion style and attached to wood mosaic that serves as the binding.
The hand-painted text, written in a round Burmese hand, forms circles around animal figures, astrological symbols, and runes. I believe the words form magical chants or charms.
There is some modest wear on the book, but no major flaws or tears.
