This hand colored glass slide is an ORIGINAL and it is NOT a reproduction. It was created to be projected onto the movie theatre screen before the film was released to promote the "coming attraction". Some people in the movie collectible world have said, that, glass slides are much rarer than the paper poster memorabilia from the same film and are very rare pieces of film history.

Plot Summary:
U.S. Army lieutenant Duke Halliday (Robert Mitchum) is robbed of a 0,000 payroll by Jim Fiske (Patric Knowles). When Halliday's superior, Captain Vincent Blake (William Bendix), suspects him of having taken part in the theft, Halliday has no choice but to pursue Fiske into Mexico. Along the way, he runs into Joan Graham (Jane Greer), who is after the 00 she loaned to her boyfriend, Fiske. The two join forces, though they are not sure at first if they can trust each other. Fiske stays one step ahead of the couple, while they are in turn chased by Blake. When Halliday is knocked down trying to stop Fiske from getting away, he comes to the attention of Police Inspector General Ortega (Ramon Novarro). Halliday claims to be Blake (using identification he took from the captain after a brawl.) Ortega lets him go after Fiske, but keeps an eye on him. His suspicions are confirmed when the real Blake shows up at his office for help.
Halliday and Graham track Fiske to an isolated house in the desert, where Fiske is meeting with Seton (John Qualen), a fence who offers Fiske 0,000 in untraceable bills in exchange for the payroll. The couple are captured by Seton's henchmen. When Blake shows up, Halliday is initially relieved to be rescued, until he learns that Blake is actually Fiske's partner in crime.
Fiske wants to take Graham with him, but Blake makes it clear that he intends to dispose of both her and Halliday. Fiske reluctantly gives in. However, when he starts to leave, Blake shoots him in the back, explaining that his ex-partner, apparently still at large, can take the blame for the missing payroll. Halliday then points out to Seton that if Blake gets rid of him too, he can give the stolen money back to the army and keep the 0,000 for himself. Taking no chances, Seton pulls a gun on Blake. When Graham creates a distraction, a fight breaks out, which Graham and Halliday win.
Trivia
:
The shooting schedule had to be rearranged to accommodate Robert Mitchum's 43 day stay in prison for marijuana possession.
Jane Greer got the female lead, because studio head Howard Hughes didn't want to risk using Jane Russell, "RKO's";& biggest female star, in case the public would turn against Robert Mitchum, because of his jail sentence for smoking marijuana. Greer and Hughes previously had a relationship, which she broke off to get married. Out of spite, Hughes stopped giving her roles, but decided that in this case she was perfect for this seemingly thankless role.
Originally, Lizabeth Scott had agreed to play the female lead. However, she bowed out after Mitchum was convicted for smoking marijuana, afraid it would hurt her career.
Reunites Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer from the great film noir, "Out of the Past (1947)," which was released two years prior.
Jane Greer was pregnant during the shoot, but didn't want anyone to know. Seeing her use her pills against morning sickness, co-star William Bendix asked what they were for. After she told him they were for combating "Montezuma's Revenge", he asked her for some. Later, he thanked her because he didn't get sick.

Robert Mitchum was an actor from the 1940s to the 1990s. He was also a director, author, poet, composer, and singer. Mitchum rose to prominence for starring roles in several classic films noirs, and his acting is generally considered a forerunner of the antiheroes prevalent in film during the 1950s and 1960s. Some of his movies include: The Story Of G.I. Joe (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Out of the Past,
The Big Steal
, Cape Fear, Holiday Affair, The Night of the Hunter,
The Longest Day
, and scores of others! He remained a leading man for decades, and his career survived his being arrested for smoking marijuana (and it probably was even helped by it!). He passed away in 1997 at the age of 79.

Jane Greer was an actress from the 1940s to the 1990s. She was born Bettejane Greer, and she was billed that way in her early movies. She appeared in some very memorable film noir movies of the 1940s. Some of her movies include: Out of the Past,

They Won't Believe Me, and Man of a Thousand Faces. She passed away in 2001 at the age of 76.

William Bendix was born in New York City in 1906. Although he seems like the quintessential boy from Brooklyn (with his classic "Brooklyn" accent) he actually grew up in Manhattan! He failed as a grocer, and started performing in nightclubs and acting. His rough looks, his burly build, and his accent forced him into secondary roles right from the start, but his ability to play both comedy and drama meant there was a part for him in virtually any movie. He was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in just his fourth movie, Wake Island, and he had many memorable performances in the 1940s, including as an ultra tough guy in The Glass Key, and as one of the passengers in Hitchcock's
Lifeboat
. It seemed likely that he would spend a career in supporting roles, but in 1944 he was cast as the lead in the radio show 'The Life of Riley', as Chester A. Riley, quintessential 'everyman' (his catchphrase was 'What a revoltin' development this is'), and the show became wildly popular. That success made Bendix so popular he got the lead in several movies, including as Babe Ruth in
The Babe Ruth Story
(especially meaningful to Bendix, because he had been a batboy for the Yankees during Ruth's prime), and in the movie version of The Life of Riley. In 1949, after the movie version of
The Life of Riley
came out, a TV version was planned, but Bendix couldn't make that because of his radio contract. So Jackie Gleason was cast instead, but audiences didn't like him in "Bendix's role", and the show was cancelled (and thankfully so, because had he been a success in that role, Gleason likely would never have made The Honeymooners!). When the radio show ended, Bendix finally made a TV version of the show, and it too was a big hit, running for six years. After the show went off the air Bendix continued to do much work in TV, movies, and radio, but sadly he got sick and passed away in 1964, when he was just 58. William Bendix was a great hard working character actor, who became a leading star late in life, thanks to one great role, and he certainly deserved that success!
